Light Up the Trail: Baja Designs LED Lights for Jeep Wrangler JK & JL
Baja Designs makes some of the most powerful and durable LED lighting on the market, and they're a top choice for Jeep Wrangler owners who hit the trails after dark. This guide covers fitment compatibility for JK (2007–2018) and JL (2018+) Wranglers, plus a basic install overview so you know what to expect.
Fitment Compatibility by Jeep Wrangler Generation
Jeep Wrangler JK (2007–2018)
- A-pillar mounts, hood mounts, and bumper-integrated light pods are widely compatible
- Roof rack light bars typically require a separate mounting bracket kit (sold separately)
- Windshield-mount light bars fit with JK-specific brackets
- 2-door and 4-door (Unlimited) share compatible mounting locations
Jeep Wrangler JL (2018–Present)
- JL-specific mounts are required — JK mounts do NOT directly swap over
- Baja Designs offers JL-specific A-pillar brackets and windshield light bar mounts
- The JL's updated hood and windshield angle require model-specific hardware
- Compatible with all JL trims including Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, and 392
Popular Baja Designs Light Options for Wranglers
- Squadron Sport / Pro: Compact, versatile pods great for A-pillars or bumpers. Available in spot, driving/combo, or wide cornering beam patterns.
- S8 Light Bar: Full-width roof or windshield bar for maximum trail illumination. Available in 10", 20", 30", and 40" sizes.
- LP6 Pro: A powerful single pod option popular for bumper or rock slider mounting.
- Amber Modes: Many Baja Designs lights feature a switchable amber mode — ideal for dust, fog, or rain on the trail.
Installation Overview
Most Baja Designs lighting kits are designed for a straightforward DIY install:
- Mount the brackets: Bolt the included vehicle-specific brackets to your A-pillars, bumper, or windshield frame. No drilling required on most JK/JL applications.
- Mount the lights: Attach the light pods or bar to the brackets and adjust the aim angle.
- Wire the harness: Baja Designs includes a complete wiring harness with relay and fuse. Route wiring to the battery and connect the switch to your dash or dash panel.
- Aim and test: Power on the lights and adjust the vertical aim so you're illuminating the road/trail ahead without blinding oncoming traffic.
Tip: If your JL Wrangler has the factory aux switch bank, Baja Designs harnesses can often be wired directly into those switches for a clean, OEM-look install.
Street Legality Note
Light bars and forward-facing auxiliary lights are regulated by state law. Many states require auxiliary lights to be covered or switched off when driving on public roads. Always check your local regulations before hitting the pavement with lights uncovered.
